Two lion deaths reported in Amreli, Gir Somnath

Amreli: Two lions died in separate incidents reported from Amreli and Gir Somnath districtsA lion died after falling into an well in Kankot village of Liliya taluka, while another was electrocuted by an illegal electric fence set up by a farmer in Kaj village of Kodinar taluka.
"Open wells have become a major danger for lions and all wildlife. The administration must take immediate steps to cover them," said Nathalal Sukhadiya, president of Line Nature Foundation, Amreli.The forest department investigation revealed that the farmer had installed the fence to protect his farm from wild boars and nilgai, but the lion got trapped and was electrocuted.Officials said the incident had occurred four days earlier. The farmer, identified as Mansingh Zala, later surrendered before the forest department, admitting his mistake. He was arrested and sent to jail.
