RAJKOT: A woman was killed and her husband injured after a speeding city bus, run by the
Rajkot Municipal Corporation
(RMC), rammed into their car near DT Savani Kidney Hospital on the
University Road
on Wednesday morning.
The deceased
Dharmishta Kumbhani
(35), resident of Punitnagar on
Gondal Road
, was travelling in a car with husband
Manish Kumbhani
(40). They were going to attend the marriage of Manish’s cousin sister on Kalavad road.
According to police, while the couple were going towards Kalavad in their car, a speeding city bus came from behind and rammed into their vehicle. The car was thrown off road into a five-foot ditch. The bus driver also lost control and crashed into a roadside shanty on the University road.
Because of the impact, Dharmishta sustained severe injuries and died before she could be taken to hospital. Manish was rushed the Rajkot civil hospital and was later shifted to a private hospital by his relatives. His condition is said to be stable. Police have registered a case of negligent driving against the bus driver who is absconding.
