Four children drown in Jasdan lake

Rajkot: Four children drowned in Bakhavad lake in Jasdan taluka of Rajkot district on Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Ramu Rathod (14), Kalu Rathod (10), Rajveer Rathod (15), and Kishan Rathod (15).ASP Naveen Chakravarthy Repudi of Jasdan division told TOI, "Bodies of all four children have been recovered from the lake. The preliminary police investigation has revealed that all the children were residents near Jasdan."According to preliminary information, the children had gone to the lake to swim to escape the intense summer heat. However, they reportedly ventured into deeper waters and drowned.The incident came to light when the children did not return home, prompting concern among family members. Upon receiving information, local authorities launched a search operation. Teams from the fire department, along with local divers, rushed to the spot and began combing the lake.After several hours of search, all four bodies were recovered from the water late in the evening. Police officials stated that the children's bicycles and clothes were found on bank of the lake, indicating they had entered the water together.The bodies have been sent for post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, the Jasdan police have registered a case of accidental death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
