Five killed, four injured in cars’ collision

Rajkot: Five persons including a woman and her five-year-old daughter were killed and four others injured on Sunday morning when the two cars they were travelling in collided head-on on Bhavnagar-Dholera highway in Ahmedabad district.

The deceased travelling in one car include Asmita Patel (30) and her daughter Arvi Patel (5), Asmita’s brother Niraj Patel (26), all residents of Nirma Colony in Bhavnagar, and Vishal Kanani from Rajkot, while Nilesh Gohel from Mehsana was travelling in the other car.

“The accident occurred on the curve of a road where both the vehicles were coming from the opposite sides. While one of the cars tried to overtake a vehicle going ahead, it came face to face with the other car coming from the opposite direction. Such was the impact of the collision that both the cars got badly mangled,” said B B Karapada, sub-inspector with Dholera police station.

The injured persons were taken to Dhandhuka Civil Hospital and from there to a hospital in Ahmedabad.
