Drunk Bhuj PSI rams into girl’s bicycle

Rajkot: A police sub-inspector (PSI) posted in Bhuj town of Kutch was arrested in Rajkot on Sunday for driving in an inebriated condition and injuring a schoolgirl in the city on Saturday evening.The accused identified as PSI Laxminarayan Vyas (56) was arrested by the city’s University police after he rammed his car into the cycle of a Class 11 girl near B T Savani Hospital.Kutch West superintendent of police (SP) Karanraj Vaghela said that they have initiated the process to suspend the accused cop. “This is a serious matter and strict action will be taken against the accused cop. Once we get the report from the Rajkot police, the PSI (Vyas) will be suspended,” he said.According to a police complaint lodged by the 17-year-old girl’s brother, a car hit his sister when she was returning home from her friend’s house on a bicycle.Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Bhargav Pandya said Vyas has undergone a medical check-up and his car too was seized. “The accused is being interrogated. If needed, we will seek his custody from the court. The accused is PSI with the wireless unit in Bhuj,” added Pandya.Vyas was booked for rash driving, attempt to commit culpable homicide, endangering safety of others, various sections of the Motor Vehicle Act and Prohibition Act. The University police are investigating the case.
