Bhavnagar PSI booked for driving head constable to suicide
Rajkot: A week after a head constable in Bhavnagar died by suicide, a police sub-inspector has been booked for abetment following a complaint by the deceased's father, who alleged persistent mental harassment that drove his son to take the extreme step.On January 21, Digvijaysinh Gohil, posted at Ghogha police station, consumed poison at his residence and died during treatment the next day. He had served in the Gujarat police for 12 years and had been posted in Ghogha for the past four years.
His father, Jaydevisinh Gohil (66), a retired sub-inspector, alleged that PSI B K Goswami repeatedly assigned his son investigations related to an assault case and a theft case, eventually leading to a dispute between them. According to the complaint, after Digvijaysinh declined to take up investigations into a temple theft in Kaliyak and an assault incident in the Gundia Keriya area, Goswami allegedly began harassing him. This reportedly included threats to ruin his service record, end his career, and transfer him out of the district.Gohil further alleged that despite his son being on sick leave from Nov 25, 2025, to Jan 7, Goswami repeatedly demanded his whereabouts and live location, issued notices directing him to report for duty, and threatened him with suspension. The complaint also stated that when Digvijaysinh was unable to attend duty as his daughter was hospitalised from October 2 to October 4, 2025, Goswami allegedly demanded his live location and asked him to meet outside the hospital. On January 21, Digvijaysinh reported to the police station for duty and later called his sister, Dakshaba, stating that he had consumed poison due to Goswami's mental torture. He was rushed to a private hospital but died during treatment on January 22.Police said a case has been registered under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
