5 of family die as car hits divider on highway

Palanpur: Tragedy struck a family from Ahmedabad returning from a marriage after five members lost their lives in road accident near Unava on the Unjha-Mehsana highway in Mehsana early on Saturday.The Kumavat family was returning in a Maruti Eco car after attending a marriage in their native Pali district of Rajasthan. During early hours, the driver reportedly lost control of the steering wheel and rammed into the road divider with tremendous force. The impact was so severe that the car overturned and got badly mangled, police said.Four persons—including two men, one woman and a four-year-old child—died on the spot. The injured were rushed to Mehsana Civil Hospital, where 75-year-old woman succumbed during treatment.The deceased were Ramlal Kumawat, Komal Kumawat, Kailash Kumawat, four-year-old Ayush Kumawat, and Mantharadevi Kumawat.The driver and five others including three women are undergoing treatment and are said to be in critical condition.A relative, Sabdish Somabhai, said the victims included his sister, brother-in-law and their family members. The family had attended a nephew's wedding in Rajasthan and was returning to Ahmedabad where another wedding function was scheduled on Saturday.
