45-year-old Sanand farmer sextorted of 1 crore
Rajkot: A 45-year-old farmer and land broker from Ahmedabad district was allegedly lured, kidnapped and "sextorted" of Rs 1 crore. Husenali Momin of Shantipura in Sanand taluka, filed a police complaint detailing the sequence of events that began with a simple "Hi" on WhatsApp.According to his FIR, Momin was contacted 20 days ago on his phone by an unknown woman who said she was "Anjali" from Surendranagar. Through persistent messages and video calls, "Anjali" claimed they were old friends, eventually persuading Momin to meet her in Surendranagar on Feb 13, 2026.Momin drove his SUV to a location in Surendranagar, as directed by Anjali. On meeting her, she told him that her full name was Bhavna Chavda, but insisted on being called Anjali. Inside the house, she allegedly insisted Momin take off his shirt. He briefly complied. She then forcibly hugged him, but he pushed her away; however, the situation took a dark turn.Suddenly, three men burst into the room, abusing Momin and accusing him of coming to their village with inappropriate intentions. They recorded a video of the woman hugging him, assaulted Momin, held him at gunpoint, took his car keys and both his mobile phones and forced him into the back of his own car.The men, whom Momin identified as Arbaaz (the driver who brandished a knife), Tausif (who had a pistol) and Sahil, drove him to a secluded spot, followed by another car carrying a fourth accomplice, Ashif. It was here that the true nature of the crime was revealed. The men allegedly threatened to kill Momin and to frame him in a rape case by releasing the video unless he paid a ransom of Rs 2 crore. Terrified, Momin negotiated the amount down to Rs 1 crore.Using his phone while under strict surveillance, Momin contacted his elder son, Idrish, fabricating a story about an urgent land deal requiring the massive sum. An hour later, as instructed by the gang, Momin told his son to get the cash to a spot on the Viramgam-Malvan highway. The exchange took place near Rahmatpur village, where Momin took a bag containing Rs 1 crore from his son and asked him to leave. He was then taken to a secluded spot where he handed it over to the criminals while being warned not to reveal the truth. After receiving the money, the gang returned his mobile phone and car and warned him against reporting the crime before fleeing in another car.Momin, shaken by the ordeal, confided in a friend two days later, who encouraged him to report the crime. He filed a complaint on Feb 19 with Surendrangar City B Division police station under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 308(5), 115(2), 352, 351(3), 61(2), and the Arms Act.The complaint names Anjali alias Bhavna Chavda, Tausif, Sahil, Ashif and Arbaaz.
