140kg silver jewellery worth Rs 1.6cr stolen from shop
Rajkot: Burglars decamped with nearly 140kg of silver jewellery estimated to be worth Rs 1.62 crore after breaking into a shop on Pedak Road in Champak Nagar in the early hours of Wednesday.The trader, Atul Busa, lodged a complaint with the B-Division police station. The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) and other teams started scanning CCTV footage to trace the thieves.
DCP (crime) Jagdish Bangarwa said that the thieves arrived in a car and carried out the theft within 20 to 25 minutes. "We are analysing CCTV footage to determine the escape route of the suspects, including whether they fled towards the Civil Hospital area, Greenland Chowkdi, or in the direction of Bhavnagar Road."Senior inspector Mehul Gondaliya of the DCB added, "The footage suggests the theft took place between 2am and 3am. Preliminary investigation indicates that there are three suspects."Busa told police that he has been operating the firm for the past eight days from a house owned by a person named Bipin in Champak Nagar. He said the shop employs two artisans and the three of them together carry out job work on silver ornaments.On Feb 3, Busa said he had to attend a wedding function and locked the shop before leaving, taking the key with him. However, on Feb 4 around 8.45am, he received a call from his uncle Jayesh Busa, who informed him that the shop door was open.On reaching there, he noticed an iron rod nearly two feet long lying near the door. On checking inside, he found that silver jewellery worth Rs 1.62 crore was missing.
