SURAJPUR: A 55-year-old woman and her two toddler granddaughters died after a wall of their kutcha house collapsed in Surajpur district, Chhattisgarh, on Monday evening, police reported. The victims were identified as Dhanmatia Das and her granddaughters Bijli, 3, and Suhani, 2. The wall's collapse is believed to be due to weakened structural integrity from ongoing monsoon rainfall.
The incident occurred in Kartama village, within the jurisdiction of the Jainagar police station. The children’s parents, who work as laborers, were away at the time, leaving the children alone with their grandmother when the wall caved in.
"The trio was trapped under the debris," said the police official.
Following the collapse, the children’s father transported them to Medical College Hospital in Ambikapur, located in the neighboring Surguja district. Unfortunately, doctors declared them dead upon arrival.
An accidental death report has been filed, and further investigation is underway.
