Who was Madvi Hidma? Top Maoist leader wanted across states and by NIA, killed in Andhra Pradesh encounter
RAIPUR: A senior CPI (Maoist) commander, Madvi Hidma, was killed on 19 November in an exchange of fire with security forces in the Maredumilli forest area of East Godavari district. Officials said the operation took place in a dense forest patch where a Maoist group was moving.
The CPI (Maoist) Central Committee member and Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee secretary was killed along with five other cadres in the dense Maredumilli forests of Alluri Sitarama Raju district. His wife, Raje alias Rajakka, a State Zonal Committee member, was also among those gunned down.
Hidma, 51, hailed from Puvarthi village under Jegurugonda police station limits in Sukma district, Chhattisgarh, and belonged to the Muriya Scheduled Tribe. He had studied up to Class 10.
According to intelligence profiles, Hidma was about 5 feet 6 inches tall, with a medium build, fair complexion, and mixed black-grey hair. He was known within Maoist ranks for organising guerrilla operations in the Bastar division and coordinating attacks across southern Chhattisgarh.
He served as a Central Committee Member (CCM) of the CPI (Maoist) and led a People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) battalion in the organisation’s southern theatre. He was known by the aliases Deva, Santosh, and Vilas.
Hidma was married to Raje alias Rajakka, a Divisional Committee Member (DVCM) who also worked as a teacher within the battalion.
Wanted in several states and by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Hidma was believed to be behind almost every major violent attack carried out by the Maoists over the past 20 years. These included the 2010 Dantewada massacre, in which 76 CRPF personnel were killed, and the 2013 Darbha valley attack in Chhattisgarh, in which the Congress lost nearly its entire leadership, including veteran VC Shukla and Mahendra Karma.
He was also associated with the 2017 Sukma ambush that killed 37 paramilitary personnel, and a reward of Rs 1 crore had been declared for his capture.
