Suspecting infidelity by husband, woman sets self ablaze in Korba

Raipur: Infuriated over a misdialed call to husband, a woman set herself ablaze sensing infidelity in Korba district of Chhattisgarh. The 32-year-old Pooja sustained 70 per cent burn and is in critical condition, meanwhile, the husband Surajbhan also sustained burns on his hands while trying to save her.
Married for four years, the couple would fight over calls from an unknown number.
Police said that an unknown woman called Surajbhan a few days back, this alerted Pooja. As the calls continued, Pooja grew more suspicious and assumed the husband was cheating on her. The couple entered into an argument over this and the woman seized his phone.
On Tuesday morning, when the unknown caller called again and the caller hung up on her, she got furious. Enraged, she called her husband who was out on work and they fought again.
Pooja then went inside a room, bolted the door, poured kerosene over and set herself on fire while her children were at their grandparent's place. When her husband saw her from the window engulfed in flames, he broke open the door and tried to save her by dousing fire.
They both were rushed to hospital by neighbours and police were informed. Doctors said Surajbhan would be discharged after primary treatment while the woman sustained serious burns.
Police have initiated investigation in the case and are yet to record the woman's statement.
