Results of National Lok Adalat in Chhattisgarh better than expectations of results in UP: High court chief justice

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh high court chief justice Ramesh Sinha commended the joint efforts of everyone involved in the success of the Lok Adalats in Chhattisgarh and said that the results in the state were better than the expectations of the results in Uttar Pradesh. Sinha was Senior Judge in Allahabad High Court before his appointment as chief justice of Chhattisgarh high court in March this year.

The chief justice addressed the officers via videoconferencing about the upcoming National Lok Adalat, scheduled to be held on May 13, 2023. The conference was attended by all district judges, family court judges, judicial officers of districts, collectors, superintendents of police, officers of banks, insurance companies, president of Bar Association, municipal commissioners etc.

The chief justice further emphasized that the success of Lok Adalats is everyone's contribution, and everyone's contribution is essential to achieve this goal so that good results can be achieved.

He highlighted the importance of this event for the resolution of disputes through the legal system and urged everyone to participate actively in the National Lok Adalat to achieve the same level of success as seen in Chhattisgarh.

When small disputes are resolved through local courts, the burden on higher courts is reduced, and they can focus more easily on serious cases, the Chief Justice said.

Justice Goutam Bhaduri, chairman of the Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority (SLSA), urged the collectors and SPs to make every effort to resolve as many cases as possible in their respective areas.

In case of any problems, they were instructed to contact the member secretary of SLSA. Justice Bhaduri expressed that a large number of small cases are pending in the courts, and the plaintiffs are troubled. A significant number of cases related to traffic fines, land acquisitions, electricity bills, municipal taxes, water bills, labour disputes, rent control, and revenue courts can be resolved in large numbers, and their plaintiffs can be relieved.

Justice S S Agrawal expressed that insurance companies now also try to settle motor accident compensation cases with the affected party, so efforts are necessary in this direction.

SLSA secretary Anand Prakash Wariyal said that as per the directions of the NALSA, New Delhi, Lok Adalats are scheduled to be held at all levels throughout the country, including the Tehsil Court to the highest level of the High Court, in the calendar year 2023.
