RAIPUR: Eight personnel of Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai's security detail have been suspended after a visitor entered the CM's residence with a licenced revolver.

It's the biggest known security breach of the CM in this insurgency-affected state. The incident took place on Feb 25 at the CM's temporary residence at Pahuna in Raipur where he is staying while CM House is being readied.

Sai was away on a tour of Telangana that day, said CM security chief Praful Thakur. According to an officer, the visitor came in a car bearing a VIP plate and was allowed inside without the mandatory security check. "He is a known face but we cannot disclose his name," the officer said.

The security personnel at the entrance did not frisk the visitor.

It was only when he had already entered the CM's residence and was approaching his chamber that the inner protection squad noticed the holstered revolver and raised the alarm.

An inquiry is underway into the incident. "Eight personnel, including officers, have been suspended as they were technically responsible for the security breach," said Thakur.

Asked if the visitor would be booked for entering a protected area with a revolver, Thakur said that he had a licence for the weapon and the fault was with the security personnel for not checking him.

The person was taken into custody for inquiry, but no arrest was made, Thakur said, adding that the ADG-intelligence is looking into the matter.
