BJP is experiencing a shortage of state leaders, says Baghel
Raipur: Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel took a dig at the opposition BJP after Durg MP Vijay Baghel was appointed as the convener of the manifesto committee for the upcoming assembly elections, saying that BJP is experiencing a shortage of state leaders. Speaking to reporters in Raipur, the chief minister said BJP leaders who dedicated their lives to the party were sidelined, while Vijay, who was once in Congress and hardly has a clue about BJP ideology, will now be making the manifesto.Referring to recent appointments in the central executive committee of BJP, Baghel said, “The appointments are being driven by BJP national vice-president Raman Singh, which is why Vishnudeo Sai and Dharamlal Kaushik were given positions.”On Sunday, the BJP on Sunday constituted a 31-member panel to draft manifesto of the opposition party for the year-end assembly polls in Chhattisgarh. The panel constituted by Chhattisgarh BJP chief Arun Sao will be headed by Lok Sabha MP Vijay Baghel and will have MLA Shivratan Sharma, former MP Ramvichar Netam and former state minister Amar Agrawal as co-convenersReferring to BJP criticism over alleged liquor scam, Baghel said, “First, action should be taken against the distillers as it has been noticed that liquor was sold without payment of excise duty. The primary responsibility pf payment of excise duty lies with them and the officials overseeing the process. However, neither their properties nor their bank accounts were seized. When the ED investigates, it reveals the details, but here, there are huge allegations without any disclosure."The chief minister claimed that all the policies implemented during Raman Singh's government are still being followed in the liquor trade, without any changes. He said the previous BJP government’s policy itself had favoured the distillers. "Now, I want to know what relationship Singh has with the distillers”, he said. The state excise department had issued notices to three distillers and officials concerned following the ED revelation that liquor was sold without payment of excise duty. “ If that is the case, we will recover every penny due to the state government’, he added.
