Woman loses gold jewellery worth ₹1.8L after she tries to help boy
Pune: A woman (56) from Sukhsagarnagar lost her gold jewellery worth Rs 1.8 lakh to two women and a boy recently in Bibvewadi after the child sought her help to reach his home in Rajasthan and the two women diverted her attention.
She lodged a complaint with the Bharati Vidyapeeth police. The case was transferred to the Bibvewadi police on Wednesday.
An officer from the Bibvewadi police said around 6.15pm on May 17, when she was standing near Dolphin Chowk, a boy approached her and requested to help him in reaching his home in Rajasthan. The officer said while she was speaking with the boy, two women approached them and urged the complainant to help the boy.
“The two women managed to persuade the complainant to accompany them in an autorickshaw and told her that the boy had a large amount of cash with him. On the way, the duo told her to remove her gold jewellery and keep it in a bag along with the cash that the boy had until they purchased a ticket for him,” he said.
The officer said the woman removed her gold jewellery worth Rs 1.8 lakh. The two women suspects pretended to help her keep the jewellery in the bag and also placed an alleged bundle of notes in it. They then diverted her attention and fled, the officer said.
“When the complainant opened the bag, she found sand and papers instead of her jewellery and bundles of currency notes,” the officer said.
He said the police have recovered CCTV footage from the area. “Our investigations are on,” he said.
