Three drown at separate spots in Indrayani river accidents
Pune: Three men drowned in separate incidents in the Indrayani river between Saturday and Sunday at locations near Shirgaon, Kund Mala and Dehu, police said.
In the first incident, a 21-year-old man from Jharkhand drowned near Parandwadi in Maval taluka on Saturday. Rescue teams recovered his body on Sunday morning. Police identified the deceased as Arman Kumar.
An officer from the Shirgaon police station said Kumar and his two friends had gone to the bridge over the Pavana river between Parandwadi and Bebadohal on Saturday afternoon. “Two of them entered the water to swim, but due to the strong current they were swept away,” the officer said.
After their third friend raised an alarm, Ramakant Darwa, a resident of Odisha who was near the riverbank, jumped into the water and rescued one of the youths, Deepak Kumar. “We immediately alerted the Wanyajeev Rakshak, Maval team to trace Arman Kumar,” the officer added.
Nilesh Garade from the rescue team said searches continued for nearly three hours on Saturday. “We resumed the operation on Sunday morning and recovered Arman Kumar’s body before handing it over to the police,” Garade said.
In another incident, 20-year-old Nikhil Kanade from Bhosari drowned at Kund Mala on Sunday evening while visiting the spot with friends. Talegaon MIDC police said his friends pulled him out and rushed him to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
In Dehu, an unidentified man died after falling into the Indrayani river on Sunday afternoon. Police said the body was recovered and sent for post-mortem examination.
