PUNE: Former Mumbai police commissioner Ranjit Singh Sharma, who is under arrest in the multi-crore fake stamp paper racket, spent a restless night in the lock-up at the Cantonment police station on Tuesday.
From the Shivajinagar court he was taken straight to the office of special investigation team (SIT) at Hadapsar and was brought to the lockup at 10.15 pm.
He shared the lockup with an unidentified accused. The entire police station premises has been turned into a fortress, with media being barred entry. Deputy commissioner of police, Vijaysinha Jadhav, visited the police station on Tuesday night to check the arrangements.
Officials said that no special provisions were being made for Sharma and that he would get the same treatment as others.
On Wednesday, he was taken to the SIT office at 9 am. He had his breakfast there and complained of slight fever. SIT sources said, following the complaint, Sharma was immediately checked by a doctor. He was interrogated throughout the morning and was made to go through the questionnaire which was given to him earlier by the state government.
The interrogation continued till late in the evening and Sharma was sent back to the Cantonment police station late in the night.
Sharma is likely to be given a lie-detector test. The lie-detector or polygraph monitors and records certain physiological phenomena in a person undergoing questioning, in an effort to determine whether the individual is speaking the truth. The results are not admissible in court and only serve as an aid to the interrogator.
