Pune leads in 1.75L-cr FY26 software exports
Pune: Software exports from the state from March (2025) to Jan (2026) stood at Rs1.74 lakh crore in 2025-26, as per the Economic Survey of Maharashtra for 2025-26. The state contributes about 20% share of all-India software exports made by registered units through Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) and ranks second after Karnataka.
As per the survey, exports for the financial year 2024-25 stood at Rs2.12 lakh crore. Pune contributes a majority share of the software exports. In all, there are 37 govt-promoted IT parks with an investment of about Rs18,595 crore with 2.7 lakh employment up to Dec, 2025. Besides, around 669 private IT parks approved by the state are located in Pune (232), Thane (213), Mumbai city and Mumbai suburban (207), Nagpur (5), Nashik (6), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (4), Wardha (1) and Raigad (1) districts. The total employment generation from the IT sector in the state is about 7.46 lakh employees.In 2023, the state govt issued a new IT & ITeS policy to attract new investments of Rs95,000 crore and create 35 lakh job opportunities and achieve exports of Rs10,000 crore through the sector. The focus areas include animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, emerging technologies, data centres, startups and infrastructure for integrated IT townships. The policy provides additional floor space index (FSI), stamp duty exemption, power rationalization benefit, certification assistance and market development assistance. It also supports research and development activities in IT, market development certification and patents for encouraging research activities. In 2025, the state also issued a policy for global capability centres (GCCs) or captive technology units of multinational companies in tune with the rising foreign investments in the state in alignment with the IT & ITeS policy.
