Pune college student dies after car runs over him

Pune: A 21-year-old college student, Mahesh Gajanan Mankar of Akola, died after a four-wheeler ran over him near the Wadgaon Bridge on the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass around 1.15am on Thursday.

Senior inspector Asaram Shete of Narhe police said, “Mankar was pursuing his higher studies from a city college. He was riding his motorcycle towards Warje from Katraj. An unidentified vehicle hit his motorcycle from behind.”

“Mankar fell on the road and the vehicle moved ahead after hitting his motorcycle. Another four-wheeler, which was running behind his motorcycle, ran over him. This vehicle too sped away from the spot,” Shete said.

“The spot did not have CCTV surveillance. We were collecting footage from the other CCTV cameras on the bypass to identify the vehicle that ran over Mankar,” Shete said.
