PUNE: Barring a few cases of violence, the Ganesh immersion procession in the city was by and large peaceful. The 28.25-hour procession ended about 1.25 hours early in comparison with the last year when the procession had lasted for 29.12 hours.
Deputy commissioner of police (special branch) Shrikant Pathak told TOI, "Pune police commissioner K K Pathak and joint commissioner of police Sunil Ramanand monitored the immersion procession.

The cases of violence were reported at Vadgaonsheri, Padmavati, Kondhwa and in Sadashiv Peth, Pathak added.
The Chandannagar police on Saturday night arrested six members of a Ganesh Mandal in Vadgaonsheri following their altercation with the members of another Ganesh Mandal. The suspects had attacked four members of the Ganesh Mandal with sticks, police said.
On Sunday night, the Sahakarnagar police booked three members of Ganesh Mandal in Padmavati under the charges of attempt to murder. The trio had assaulted a 33-year-old member of a Ganesh Mandal with sharp weapon. The incident occurred around 10 pm on Sunday, the police said.
Following a petty issue a member of Ganesh Mandal in Sadashiv Peth was bludgeoned with a tile. The incident happened around at midnight on Sunday in Sadashiv peth. Rohan Ghodke, a resident of Sadashiv Peth suffered head injuries in the attack. The police have booked one Deepak Gaikwad of Sadashiv Peth under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

Around the same time a 40-year-old man was assaulted with sharp weapon in Kondhwa. The complainant Arun Shukla of Kondhwa Budruk, who was returning home after attending the Ganesh immersion procession sustained severe injuries at his stomach, hands and legs. The Kondhwa police have arrested 26-year-old Anil Kamble under the charges of murder attempt.
Meanwhile, the Vishrambaug police have arrested a 37-year-old Nagnath Jadhav of Beed district, who was on the run after snatching two gold chains worth Rs 1 lakh at Kunte Chowk on Laxmi road. Shivaji Goje of Kalewadi has lodged the complaint with the Vishrambaug police station.
