Pune: The state irrigation department will beef up safety measures at the dams to avoid accidents.
Officials on Friday said caution boards were already in place at most reservoirs.
A senior official from the irrigation department told TOI, “Security personnel have been appointed at every dam in Pune circle, but the manpower is inadequate to monitor the dams’ entire geographical area. An option of installation of fences along the entire body is also not a feasible option.”
The official said, “We are issuing fresh instructions to the executive engineers appointed at the dams to conduct a fresh survey and install caution boards.”
The department is also planning to approach local police to increase vigil. “People often misjudge the depth of water,” Ajay Shinde, a regular trekker said.
