PUNE: CV Ramana, senior scientist from CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR-NCL), Pune has been selected to receive the prestigious C N R Rao national prize for chemical sciences for 2017.
The award has been instituted for promotion of chemical research. Ramana has been selected for his contributions to the field of total synthesis of natural products.
A statement issued by NCL said Rao is a distinguished organic chemist with expertise in diverse areas.
His contributions to chemical synthesis include the development of new synthetic tools and new synthetic strategies aimed towards complex natural products synthesis and on expanding the synthesis landscape across various fields by employing metal-catalyzed transformations.
The statement added that, Ramana has authored more than 110 research articles in international peer-reviewed journals, besides having about ten patents in India and abroad. Ramana earlier received CSIR Young Scientist Award, the Professor D K Banerjee Memorial Award Lecture, and he also has been a fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore.
The award will be given to Ramana at the forthcoming Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI) National Symposium in Chemistry (NSC-20) in Gauhati University between February 3 and 5, 2017.
