Maharashtra Navnirman Sena eager to fight all 8 Pune seats
PUNE: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s (MNS) city unit wants to contest all eight assembly constituencies.
On Wednesday, a number of MNS leaders and ticket aspirants met the party leadership in Mumbai and submitted a list of probable candidates for the eight seats in Pune city. A source said the party was expected to declare the candidates’ names on September 29.
“We have shared our views with the party higher-ups about the elections in the city. The senior leaders will take a call on ticket allocation and the date to announce the candidates’ names. The party is prepared for all the seats in Pune,” MNS city chief Ajay Shinde said.
Earlier reluctant to enter the polls, the MNS led by Raj Thackeray has tossed its hat in the ring and hinted at fielding 120 candidates in the state. The sources said the MNS leadership was waiting for the announcement of the Sena-BJP seat sharing formula.
The MNS had unsuccessfully tried its poll fortune in the eight constituencies in 2014. The performance was poorer than the 2009 elections, when the MNS had won the Khadakwasla seat. TNN
