Pune: Several weather stations across Maharashtra recorded a slight drop in minimum temperatures on Saturday compared with Friday, with readings dipping by 0.5°C to 1.8°C at select locations.
In the Madhya Maharashtra region, Lohegaon witnessed the sharpest fall, with the minimum temperature dropping by 1.8°C to 17.1°C on Saturday from 18.9°C a day earlier. Solapur recorded a decline of 1.7°C (from 19.3°C to 17.6°C), while Kolhapur and Sangli saw temperatures fall by 1°C each. Pune city's minimum temperature dipped marginally by 0.5°C, from 13.8°C to 13.3°C, while Satara also recorded a similar decrease.
In the Konkan-Goa belt, Dahanu experienced a fall of 1.2°C in minimum temperature, settling at 18.2°C compared with 19.4°C on Friday. Mumbai's Colaba and Santacruz stations recorded a drop of around 0.7°C each.
India Meteorological Department (IMD), however, has forecast no significant change in temperatures across most parts of Maharashtra over the coming week. According to the Met department's outlook, maximum temperatures are expected to remain stable across the state over the next seven days. Minimum temperatures in north Konkan may decline by 2–3°C between Monday and Tuesday, followed by a gradual rise of a similar magnitude thereafter. The Vidarbha region is also likely to witness a rise of 2–3°C in minimum temperatures around Monday and Tuesday, with no major change expected subsequently.
Explaining the recent dip, SD Sanap, scientist at IMD, Pune, said, "A western disturbance is affecting the northern Indian region and, as it is moving eastward, northerly winds are penetrating parts of Maharashtra. This has caused the marginal drop of 1-2°C observed in cities like Pune over the last couple of days."
Sanap added that the dip would be short-lived. "In Pune, minimum temperatures have fallen from around 14–15°C to 13°C. Over the next 48 hours, they are expected to remain in this range. Thereafter, southerly and south-easterly winds will dominate again, leading to a gradual rise of 2–3°C," he said, adding that the variation was marginal and within the normal range for this time of year.
