Gangster Ghaywal’s brother Sachin arrested from Sikar in Rajasthan
Pune: The Pune city crime branch on Wednesday night arrested Sachin Ghaywal (48) of Kothrud in a MCOCA case after a nine-month hunt at a village near Sikar in Rajasthan. Sachin is the brother of notorious city gangster Nilesh Ghaywal.
Police were looking for Sachin since action was initiated against him under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in connection with a firing incident in Kothrud on Sept 17 last year.
He was produced before a city court and remanded in police custody till June 9.
A case under MCOCA and attempt to murder was registered at Kothrud police station against 13 accused, including gang leader Nilesh and Sachin, who had earlier come under scrutiny over a controversial arms licence. Subsequently, five more cases, including alleged forcible occupation of 10 residential flats in Kothrud, were registered against the Ghaywal brothers.
Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar told TOI, “We were looking for Sachin for the past nine months. Sachin left Pune as soon as the crime took place. He moved to Solapur and then to different locations in Maharashtra. He moved to a village near Sikar in Rajasthan in Feb this year. However, our team tracked him down and nabbed him on Wednesday night. He was carrying Rs 3.50 lakh Iin cash.”
Additional commissioner of police (Crime) Tejaswi Satpute said, “He was staying in a rented house on a monthly rent of Rs6 ,500. He hardly made any online monetary transactions and used cash. He relied on food served at temple and avoided eating outside”.
Deputy commissioner of police (crime) Gauhar Hasan said, “Sachin has been booked in five cases since 2010 and in MCOCA case also. All the cases against him are registered with Kothrud and Warje police stations”.
Sachin was previously employed as a teacher at a reputed school. “To avoid being identified by police and others, he had grown a beard and used multiple SIM cards, making it difficult for investigators to trace him,” Hasan said.
He was produced before a city court and remanded in police custody till June 9.
