For now, BJP corporator’s disqualification remains on hold

Pimpri Chinchwad: BJP corporator Kundan Gaikwad has obtained a stay order from the high court against his likely

disqualification

after his caste certificate was found invalid.

Ruling party leader Eknath Pawar said, “The high court has granted stay order against his disqualification from the post of corporator. The next hearing will be held on November 7.”

Gaikwad had failed to submit his caste validity certificate to the civic election department till August 22, following which he had obtained a stay order from HC restraining the civic chief from taking any action against him till September 1.

Meanwhile, his opponent Nitin Rokade approached the caste validity committee in Buldhana, which found Gaikwad’s certificate invalid. After this was communicated to PCMC civic chief Shravan Hardikar, he directed the election department to act against Gaikwad, subject to checking if there was a stay from any court. Gaikwad was born in Buldhana.

However, Gaikwad obtained the stay order from the HC on Tuesday. Hardikar told TOI, “Gaikwad has obtained a stay order till November 7 so the action of disqualification cannot be taken against him.”
