Daily wager bludgeons father, younger brother to death in Junnar

Pune: A 32-year-old daily wage worker was arrested on Wednesday from Bagadwadi village in Junnar taluka on the charge of bludgeoning his father and one of the younger brothers to death.

The Pune Rural police identified the deceased as Jayram Mukane (65), a resident of Bagadwadi in Junnar taluka, and Raju Mukane (30), a resident of Titwala near Kalyan. Jayram Mukane had three sons.

The police arrested Babji Mukane, the suspect and oldest son of Jayram Mukane, under Section 103 (murder) of the BNS.

While the suspect and Jayram stayed together, Raju Mukane shifted to Titwala. Raju had come to visit his father on May 30 for a few days. The youngest son, Yuvraj (27), who lodged a complaint with the police, had also shifted a few houses away to stay separately.

Assistant police inspector Dnyaneshwar Bajgire of the Otur police said, “The suspect was staying with his father in a shanty in Bagadwadi. The duo worked as daily wagers. The murders were the fallout of a dispute that arose from the suspect’s desire to remarry.”

“The complainant told us that Babji’s wife had left him about six months ago. He wanted to remarry and was forcing his father to find him a bride. He often quarrelled over this issue with his father,” the officer said.

He said on Tuesday night, Babji picked up a dispute with his father and Raju, his younger brother, over the same issue. The dispute grew and the complainant had to go and pacify the suspect.

“On Wednesday morning, the complainant’s neighbour told him that two men were lying unconscious outside his father’s shanty. He rushed to the spot and found the bodies of his father and brother,” he said.

Bajgire said the complainant also found the suspect sitting behind the shanty. The suspect told the complainant that he had bludgeoned father and brother to death with a stick and stones as they were not helping him in getting married again.

“Our investigations are on,” Bajgire said.
