On Wednesday, the Congress conducted a meeting involving senior leaders such as Harshvardhan Patil (former state minister), Ulhas Pawar, Ratnakar Mahajan and the party’s city chief, Ramesh Bagwe.

Patil said this year’s elections would be like a “social media war” and the party should be prepared to win it. He said its high time “to expose the failures of the government, corrupt practices by the BJP ministers and the state’s failure to tackle the drought”.

He added, “The party’s local units should prepare a campaign plan jointly with their counterparts of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).”

Congress sources said the party leadership has a long list of aspiring candidates for the Pune Lok Sabha constituency. The sources added that the party high command should give the poll ticket to its own candidates instead of the “imported ones”.

BJP associate MP Sanjay Kakade is keen on throwing his hat into the Pune ring and has said he would soon join the Congress.
