PUNE: The association of the management of unaided institutes in rural areas has written to the state common entrance test cell for a single prospectus for all professional courses after Std XII.

The association has said that multiple brochures were confusing parents and students while selecting courses and parents were spending extra for different entrance tests
The cell said that a proposal to the state government had been submitted and a decision is awaited.

State higher education minister Chandrakant Patil said, "Parents have been sending a number of such requests to the department from time to time. We are trying to study how things might change if we issued just one brochure. We are also taking a look at the other states and their strategies on a prospectus for professional courses. We will announce a decision soon."

The cell conducts entrance exams for undergraduate courses in engineering, pharmacy, architecture, management, law and hotel management among others.

Students and parents are often confused if there is too much information about courses available.

Ramdas Pol, a member of the association, said, "We have submitted several letters to the cell about publishing a common brochure for admission to all professional courses for Std XII students like Goa does, but nothing has changed so far."

Although the prospectus is freely available to download, aspiring students have to pay the fees separately for each and every CET which adds to the financial burden.

Sumit Karnik, a parent from Warje who has filled the engineering CET form for his son, Atharva, said, "The problem with multiple brochures is that it creates a lot of confusion while making a decision. There are some criteria based on which the decision to attempt a particular CET is taken, but so many brochures just add to the confusion." Pol said the colleges as well as parents have been demanding that the cell combine the brochures for the past three years but their requests remain unheard.
