BJP eyes connect at booth level

PUNE: The BJP has adopted a two-pronged strategy — to undertake an “aggressive campaign” and bank on booth-level outreach — to retain the Pune Lok Sabha constituency.


BJP city chief Yogesh Gogawale on Wednesday said the party has set up a team of over 19,450 booth workers. “They will soon reach out to the voters with the details of work done by the party in the past five years,” he said.

The party has set up about 1,900 booths, while over 400 Shakti Kendra heads are working in the constituency. “The party will not play the caste card. We will fight the elections on a development plank,” Gogawale said.

BJP’s Anil Shirole had won the Pune Lok Sabha seat in 2014 with a margin of over 3 lakh votes against his nearest Congress candidate.

About the party’s candidate for the 2019 elections, Gogawale said, “The name will be announced by the central election committee. The party follows a set procedure to announce the candidates. A list of shortlisted names will go from the state committee to the central committee for the final decision.”

and Gogawale, is among the front runners for the Pune seat.

The BJP’s city unit is likely hold a joint meeting of its workers and the Shiv Sena on March 18. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray are expected to attend the meeting.
