3 activists file bail pleas in Elgar Parishad case
PUNE:
The court issued a notice to the prosecution and listed the pleas for final hearing on November 14. The activists, presently lodged in judicial custody at the Yerawada central prison, filed the bail pleas through their lawyers Siddharth Patil and Rahul Deshmukh.
Dhawale, Wilson and Rauth were arrested on June 6 in the Elgar Parishad case with Surendra Gadling and Shoma Sen. Dhawale was the only person named as a member of the Kabir Kala Manch in the FIR registered at Vishrambaug police station on January 8.
The district government pleader, Ujjwala Pawar, had on June 7 “furnished letters seized from electronic device from the activists”. One letter seized from Wilson had mentioned a plot to end the Modi Raj and execute a Rajiv Gandhi type incident, the police said.
It is the police’s case that the Maoists funded and supported the Elgar Parishad, held in Pune a day before the January 1 caste clashes at Koregaon Bhima, about 30km from here. The police claimed that alleged inflammatory speeches and provocative statements at the Parishad contributed to the Koregaon Bhima violence.
The court of special UAPA judge K D Vadane on Friday rejected the bail application of activist Sen. Judge Vadane observed in his order, “The material (seized letters) collected by the investigating officer shows prima facie involvement of the applicant/accused (Sen) in the crime.
