Two arrested for duping Puducherry man of Rs 1.75 lakh

PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry cybercrime police arrested two Jharkhand men, who were hiding at Oragadam near Chennai, on charges of duping a man of Rs 1.75 lakh.

One of the two arrested men impersonated himself as a customer care executive of a popular online shopping store and instructed the complainant, Krishna Sharma of Puducherry, to download an application (AnyDesk) on his mobile phone to cancel an order he placed. As soon as he downloaded the app, Rs 1.75 lakh was debited from his bank account.

The cybercrime police identified the people involved in crime and managed to trace two of them hiding at Oragadam and arrested them. The arrested have been identified as M Asamuddin Ansari and S Mahesh Kumar Shah from Jharkhand.

The police seized a mobile phone, a SIM card and three ATM cards from their possession. They were remanded in judicial custody.

The police have launched a hunt for the mastermind of the crime.
