Tension as police remove bust of Kaduvetti Guru

According to sources, a section of Kadaiperikuppam villagers headed by PMK former secretary Muthu Kumaran had erected a bust of the erstwhile Vanniyar Sangam leader Kaduvetti Guru without police permission close to the PMK party flag. They also garlanded the bust.
On information, the Vanur police officials, including inspectors Ezhilarasi, Thirumani and Joseph Selvaraj, rushed to the spot and asked the villagers to remove the bust.
But the villagers did not pay heed to the police advice and consequently, the police had to lathi-charge the villagers to disperse them. In the melee, 10 villagers were injured.
But things took an ugly turn when two PMK functionaries – Anbarasu and Raghuraj – attempted to immolate themselves by dousing kerosene on them.
The police, however, acted swiftly and thwarted their attempt by dousing water on them.
They registered a case against 10 villagers, including Muthu Kumaran. They also arrested two villagers, including Silambarasan and Manikandan. The police have beefed up security in the village to avert any untoward incidents.
