Puducherry police launch e-petition monitoring system, plan to launch e-complaint box and e-beat
PUDUCHERRY: Director general of police B Srinivas launched an e-petition monitoring system developed by the students of Pondicherry Technological University (PTU) to supervise the progress of action taken on petitions by the senior officials on Friday.
The DGP launched the system, a dream project of senior superintendent of police (law and order) Narra Chaitanya in his presence and others including SSP (crime and investigation) Swati Singh, PTU vice-chancellor S Mohan and professor and associate dean (academic courses) K Jayanthi.
Hitherto the police department has been manually recording the petitions received from the public. There was no coherent computer application to supervise or monitor the progress of the action taken on petitions by senior officials. The department approached Jayanthi and students of the electronics and communication engineering department at PTU to develop a software application to monitor the petitions to improve the police’s accountability to the public.
The department has also proposed to request the PTU team to develop an application to monitor the beat system of police. Final year electronic and communication students V Madeshvaradhan, E Mginder, and K Kamesh Kumar designed and developed an ‘e-complaint’ system. The team is developing an e-beat monitoring system.
“The e-Complaint Box is imperative to redress the grievances of the public. Each grievance registered will be acknowledged with a unique reference number for future correspondence. Once registered, these grievances will be redressed by the respective station house officers/ investigation officers, while the senior officers can monitor it. The importance of this software is it empowers the public in grievance redressal and also the supervising officers to monitor the responsiveness of police stations,” said a release.
The maintenance of both software applications will be supported by the PTU students for six months. There is no financial cost involved for the development or maintenance of these applications.
