PUDUCHERRY: Police arrested a gang of three men on Wednesday for robbing users of gay dating application. The users were invited to secluded spots for sexual activities in Puducherry.
Sources said the gang recorded sexual activities and later extorted money from a few victims threatening to upload the videos online. The arrested were identified as M Ramu, 21 from Uruvaiyaru, K Vijayakumar, 19 and K Mugilan, 20 from Kanuvapet, Villianur. Police have launched a hunt for one more person identified as Prakash.
Mangalam police arrested the gang after a youth lodged a complaint stating that four masked men attacked him when he was peeing near a burial ground.
The gang withdrew 8,000 from his bank account using his ATM card. Police managed to identify the suspects with the help of CCTV footage at the ATM centre and nabbed three men.
During the investigation, the trio admitted to targeting users of online gay mobile app and robbing them.
