Puducherry electricity dept employee gets rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting minor girl

PUDUCHERRY: A special court handling cases booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012 has sentenced a 47-year-old government servant to five years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl in a village in the Union territory of Puducherry in 2021.

Special judge J Selvanadhan also sentenced B Kuttiyandi, who is a Puducherry electricity department employee, to one year of rigorous imprisonment for criminally intimidating the minor survivor after sexually assaulting her. Both terms will run concurrently.

The special judge directed the government to provide a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the minor survivor. Special public prosecutor s Patcheappan appeared on behalf of the government.
