PUDUCHERRY: Home minister A Namassivayam said the Union territory of Puducherry is free of illicit arrack.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, he said the Tamil Nadu CB-CID sleuths arrested two men from Puducherry in connection with 'spurious liquor' cases in the neighbouring state. Namassivayam said he had directed the Puducherry police to take up a thorough investigation into the issue and the arrest of two men from Puducherry. Former chief minister V Narayanasamy said chief minister N Rangasamy and Namassivayam must own moral responsibility for smuggling of arrack and methanol from Puducherry to Tamil Nadu, which led to the death of 21 people and resign.
He said the Tamil Nadu chief secretary wrote to his counterpart in Puducherry to initiate stringent action against people supplying arrack to bootleggers in Tamil Nadu. Puducherry chief secretary sought the chief minister's permission, which never came, Narayanasamy said.
