Lok Sabha MP V Vaithilingam appointed as president of Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee

PUDUCHERRY: Senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP V Vaithilingam was appointed as the president of Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) replacing another senior Congress leader A V Subramanian.


All India Congress Committee general secretary and MP K C Venugopal in a release on Friday said the Congress president has appointed Vaithilingam as president of PPCC, MP Shaktisinh Gohil as president of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee and MLA Varsha Gaikwad as president of Mumbai regional Congress committee.

Vaithilingam, two-time chief minister (1991-96 and 2008-2011), is associated with the Congress party for the past five decades. He has won all the eight general assembly elections in addition to the polls to the Lok Sabha in 2019. Son of late chief minister V Venkatasubba Reddiar, Vaithilingam also served as public works minister between 1985 and 1990 and as industries minister between 2006 and 2008.

Venugopal said the party appreciates the contributions of the outgoing presidents Jagdish Thakor (Gujarat), Subramanian (Puducherry) and Bhai Jagtap (Mumbai).
