Kannan's contribution to Puducherry will be remembered fondly: Rahul Gandhi

PUDUCHERRY: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has sent a letter to Shanthi Kannan, widow of former Puducherry speaker P Kannan, who passed away on Sunday, expressing his heartfelt condolences.

Kannan, who also served as a minister twice, died following severe viral pneumonia on Sunday night.

"I am deeply saddened by the demise of your husband, Thiru P Kannan. We have lost a leader, who dedicated his life to public service. His contribution to Puducherry will be remembered fondly...I can imagine your anguish and sorrow at losing him. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this hour of grief," Rahul said.

He said Kannan's journey was one of tremendous perseverance in the face of adversity. In a career spanning several decades, he donned several mantles and was actively involved in championing important public causes. His commitment to uplifting people in need earned him tremendous respect. His legacy would continue to inspire the communities that he served, said Rahul.
