INDIA alliance seeks action against two BJP MLAs in Puducherry for illegally transferring temple land to them
PUDUCHERRY: INDIA alliance parties will stage a protest in front of the Puducherry chief secretariat on October 6 to condemn lieutenant governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and All India NR Congress founder leader and chief minister N Rangasamy for failing to initiate any action against BJP MLAs A John Kumar and his son Richards John Kumar, who were pulled up by the Madras high court for illegally transferring land belonging to a temple to them.
The alliance demanded that Tamilisai and Rangasamy drop efforts of attempting to protect the father-son duo MLAs and initiate efforts to arrest them. The alliance also condemned the BJP for maintaining stoic silence on the illegal grabbing of temple land by the MLAs with the help of corrupt government servants.
The alliance pointed out that the high court had directed the Puducherry government to recover the temple land grabbed by the MLAs and others and hand over the property to the temple trust within four weeks. It demanded the resignation of the MLAs owning moral responsibility for their criminal action.
A resolution to this effect was passed at a meeting of the leaders of the alliance in Puducherry on Friday.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee president and Lok Sabha MP V Vaithilingam said the INDIA alliance parties would take out a procession to the chief secretariat on October 6, stage a protest there and submit a memorandum to the chief secretary demanding stringent action against the two MLAs. He said a copy of the memorandum would be sent to Madras high court Chief Justice S V Gangapurwala.
He demanded constituting an independent inquiry committee to probe the grabbing of temple land by the MLAs. He said there were lots of irregularities in the sale of land belonging to Kannagi Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Cooperative Spinning Mill at Thirubhuvanai and cooperative societies.
