Driver sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping, sexually assaulting minor girl in Puducherry

PUDUCHERRY: A special court handling cases booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012 sentenced a 26-year-old driver to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl on the outskirts of Puducherry town.

Special judge (Pocso court) J Selvanadhan also sentenced the driver, identified as S Mohammed Irshath of Parangipettai in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu, to three years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping the minor girl. Both terms will run concurrently. The special judge imposed a fine of Rs 6,000 on him.

According to special public prosecutor S Patcheappan, the driver kidnapped the minor girl from Puducherry and sexually assaulted her in 2016. The Ariyankuppam police booked the driver under Section 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Pocso Act and Section 363 (punishment for kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code based on a complaint filed by the minor girl's relative and arrested him.
