PATNA: Of the 40 railway stations selected for redevelopment in the country, contracts have already been awarded for two stations in the state – Gaya and Muzaffarpur. According to a railway official, Muzaffarpur station will be redeveloped at an expenditure of Rs 442 crore and Gaya station at Rs 296 crore.

“These two stations will get world-class facilities like roof plaza, state-of-the-art lounge, waiting rooms, shopping complex, cafeteria, WiFi, ATMs, lift and escalators,” East Central Railway (ECR) chief public relations officer Birendra Kumar said.

The CPRO added that under the station redevelopment plan approved for Gaya and Muzaffarpur, children play area and designated space for sale of local products on the station premises will be built.

“Various modes of transport will be linked with the railway stations for the convenience of the passengers. Green technology will be adopted to build new station buildings at Gaya and Muzaffarpur,” he said.

According to the CPRO, the railways has allocated Rs 2,915 crore in five years for the station redevelopment and passenger amenities at different stations falling under the jurisdiction of the ECR. “Bidding process is expected to be finalised for 14 other stations in the country soon,” he said.

Kumar said the railways has already provided required passenger amenities like WiFi, VIP AC lounge, food courts and ATMs at all the major stations in the state.
