There will be riots, atrocities in Bihar if Congress & RJD win: Amit Shah
PATNA: Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday said if the people of Bihar voted Congress and Lalu Prasad's RJD to office, it would "lead to riots, oppression, injustice, poverty and hunger."
"If you support NDA, it will propel Bihar forward under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and CM Nitish Kumar and bring development and prosperity to the state," Shah said, while addressing a rally in Katihar.
Shah said the opposition INDIA bloc aims to regress Bihar to the era of lanterns.
Shah, who spoke in the presence of CM Nitish Kumar, also dwelt at length on the alleged anti-backward classes stance of the Congress, which has sought to reach out to OBCs with the promise of nationwide caste census, besides forming alliances with parties like the RJD that have roots in the Mandal movement.
He said RJD joined hands with Congress that opposed the recommendations of the Kaka Kalelkar panel and the Mandal Commission, which were meant to provide quota to backward classes.
"It was under Modi that the National Commission for Backward Classes was granted constitutional status. Now, Lalu Prasad's RJD has joined hands with the same Congress," he added.
Shah credited BJP with having given the nation, in Modi, its "first OBC Prime Minister" who has "put an end" to dynasty politics.
Later, Shah, in a voice message said the Centre was looking into the demand of 11 Hills communities for Scheduled Tribe status.
He was supposed to address a rally in Lebong in Darjeeling but could not reach due to bad weather.
Shah also took part in a roadshow on Sunday in Assam's Silchar, the most important town of Barak Valley bordering Bangladesh.
