SIT to probe RTI activist murder in E Champaran

MOTIHARI

: The East Champaran police on Wednesday constituted a four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the murder of RTI activist Rajendra Prasad Singh.

Rajendra was shot by some motorcycle-borne criminals on Tuesday on NH-28 near Mathbanawari, 18km away from Motihari.

East Champaran SP Chhatra Nil Singh said the four-member probe team comprises SDPOs of Areraj and Motihari, Motihari ASP and ASP (operations).

Family members of Rajendra claimed that four attempts were made on his life during the last five years. Locals also said that the deceased, a marginal farmer, was a popular RTI activist of this district for the last 10 years and was fighting against various irregularities in block offices, banks, police stations and other institutions.

Police sources also added that the RTI activist had lodged over a dozen cases against different persons including mukhiyas of several panchayats, police officers and banks officials. He was also a facing trial in more than two dozen cases. The deceased’s wife, Braj Kishori Devi, had lodged an FIR on Tuesday night with the Pipra Kothi police station against the deceased’s brother Satyendra Singh and Subhash Yadav, Sudhanshu Singh, Ajay Kumar Singh and Pramod Kumar Singh.

Rajendra was a native of Mangalapur village under Sangrampur police station of

East Champaran district

and all the accused belong to the same village. Police sources said all are absconding.
