SHO suspended for assaulting army officer, kin in Nalanda
Patna: The station house officer (SHO) of Telhara police station in Nalanda, Rajesh Kumar Thakur, was suspended on Sunday, for allegedly assaulting a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Indian Army and his family. The police raided the house of the JCO in search of his brother, a rape accused, on April 9. However, the police allegedly entered the house without a warrant and assaulted the JCO, his wife, sister-in-law, niece, and sister. They were also detained and later released on bail. When a complaint was lodged with the state DGP, Vinay Kumar, the SHO was suspended.The victim JCO has been identified as Subedar Ajit Kumar, a resident of Chandpur village under Telhara police station area. He is posted in Amritsar, Punjab. Central Range IG, Garima Mallik, has been assigned to probe the allegations made against the Telhara SHO.According to the JCO, when his brother Mantu Kumar was not found, the Telhara police raided his house at midnight on April 9. "The police entered the house by climbing over the wall without a warrant or prior notice. When we protested against their action, we were brutally beaten. Not only that, the police also dragged me, my wife, sister-in-law, niece, and sister out of the house. Additionally, they filed a case against me and my nephew for obstructing police work," alleged subedar Ajit.Meanwhile, a photo of Ajit, injured in the assault, is going viral on social media, showing multiple injury marks on his body. "Subedar Ajit came to his home in Chandpur village on leave for the Chaiti Chhath festival. His brother, Mantu Kumar, a sarpanch, is an accused in a rape case, and the police filed an FIR against him. When the police team went to arrest the rape accused, Ajit and his associates clashed with the police team conducting the raid, and obstructed official duties and also used offensive language.
