Mounted police deployed to check illegal sand mining

Ara: With a firm resolve to curb illegal sand mining and transportation in the inaccessible riverine stretches along the Sone river, Bhojpur police have deployed units of the mounted special armed police for intensified patrolling and flag marches in the diara areas. The move has been initiated at the direction of Bhojpur SP Raj. Special surveillance has been in place under Koilwar, Babura and Chandi police stations.

Sadar SDPO-2 Ranjit Kumar Singh said, “Keeping in view the upcoming festival of Holi as well as to curb the illegal sand mining and transportation in the riverine areas along the Sone river, special surveillance is being maintained by the police at the instructions of the Bhojpur SP. A joint flag march was conducted by the Bhojpur police and the mounted special armed police units on Thursday. These flag marches and patrolling will continue in the coming days.”


According to police, mounted personnel provide a height advantage and better visibility, making them particularly effective in spotting illegal activities in the difficult and inaccessible terrain of the diara belt, which remains vulnerable to sand mining operations.

“The patrolling and flag marches against the sand mafias are being conducted in Semra, Mahadevchak, Kamaluchak, Rajapur, Daulatpur, Kachra factory area, Mahui and other sand ghats along the Sone river,” a police officer said.

Apart from the Sadar SDPO-2, Koilwar SHO Narottam Chandra and Babura SHO Sanjay Kumar are leading patrolling operations in their respective riverine jurisdictions to tighten the clampdown on illegal sand extraction and transportation.
