PATNA: State BJP ‘kala’ cell convener Barun Kumar Singh said on Thursday that the Kotwali police refused to lodge an FIR against the ‘Kaali’ film director, Leena Manimekalai, for issuing a poster of the film in which Maa Kaali has been shown as smoking a cigarette.

Singh and his team had also decided to file an FIR against TMC MP Mahua Moitra who had tweeted that goddess Kaali loved meat and drink. Singh said the film director and Moitra had hurt the sentiments of Hindus, but the Kotwali police refused to register an FIR against them.

Kotwali police station SHO Sunil Kumar Singh told this newspaper that they cannot lodge an FIR for something not happening under their jurisdiction. “They should go to the court or else file a case online. We told them that they should lodge complaints in Mumbai and Kolkata,” he said. Singh then met DSP Sanjay Kumar, who also said they cannot register an FIR.

Complaints have been registered against the duo at many places in the country, including in a Muzaffarpur court.

Advocate Sudhir Ojha, who filed a complaint in Muzaffarpur on July 6, said Manimekalai has hurt religious sentiments by making controversial photographs of Hindu deities. “Maa Kali is shown smoking a cigarette. This scene should be removed from the film,” he submitted.
