Jamui cop shoots self after tiff with wife

PATNA: A constable of Bihar police allegedly shot himself with his service revolver after some tiff with his wife in Jamui on Saturday.


Jamui SP Shaurya Suman said the 25-year-old deceased constable, Gunjan Kumar, was posted at Town police station. “He shot himself in the right side of his temple after returning home from office following a dispute with his wife over some domestic issue,” he told TOI.

“He was rushed to Sadar Hospital, but the doctors referred him to Patna for better treatment. He died on the way,” the SP said.

The incident took place around 1.30pm at Bihari Mohalla where Gunjan was living with his wife and a three-year-old son in a rented house.

Rajeev Kumar Tiwari, SHO of Town police station, said the constable had been working there since January 2022. “He did night duty on Friday and returned home Saturday morning. It has come to light that he committed suicide over a domestic dispute but it has not been ascertained yet. The statement of his wife will be recorded,” he said.

Police said the wife was not in a condition to tell anything regarding the incident. “The relatives of the deceased have been informed. Investigation is on,” Tiwari said.
