Patna: The state witnessed light to moderate rainfall for the third consecutive day on Monday, while India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in several districts on Tuesday, and more rainfall across the state till October 6.

"The southwest monsoon remained extremely strong in the state in the last 24 hours. Heavy rainfall was recorded at one or two places in Nawada, Rohtas, Gaya and Samastipur districts. Light to moderate rainfall was recorded in most places in the southern, southwestern and south-central parts of the state and many places in the state," said Kumar Gaurav, an official at Patna Meteorological Centre.

On Monday, Gaya received 4.8mm rainfall, followed by Buxar (4.0mm), Banka (3.0mm), Motihari (2.1mm), Begusarai (2.0mm) and Bhagalpur (1.9mm).

"We are expecting heavy rainfall in one or two places in the districts of West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Bhojpur, Rohtas, Kaimur, Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Nawada, Jamui, Kishanganj, Supaul and Purneas in the next 24 hours. In addition, most places in the northern, southwestern and south-central parts of the state and many places in the remaining state are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall. Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely at one or two places in most districts across the state," said Gaurav.

According to a report by the Patna Meteorological Centre, a low-pressure area that had formed over south Jharkhand and its neighbourhood, now lies over southwest Jharkhand and adjoining north Chhattisgarh.
